Riders get a taste of the real Superbikes Barcelona Motorfest experience

The event opened today with a first day of media engagements closed to the public. Some of the participants of the WorldSBK family have become prescribers of the event that combines fun, gastronomy and motor racing in equal parts.

WorldSBK

The Superbikes Barcelona Motorfest today gave a preview of everything it has in store for fans. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is already wearing its best outfit to open its doors to the public as of tomorrow for the second round of the year for the World Superbike Championship.

This approach to the authentic Superbikes Barcelona Motorfest experience has been carried out by some of the protagonists of the weekend, riders of the World Superbike family in its different categories. Dominique Aegerter (WorldSBK), Adrián Huertas (WorldSSP) and Mirko Gennai (WorldSSP300) were chosen to represent their respective championships.

The three of them enjoyed a most unusual and fun morning on some of the fairground rides installed at the venue. Specifically, they have done so in the Fan Zone, a place that will host all kinds of proposals for fans this weekend: shops, animations, attractions, Food Market, Moto Market and much more. Right in front of the Fan Zone, fans will find the concert area, the Panorama Village Music Stage.

The programme of activities goes much further and is one of the novelties of this edition, the first in which the Superbike World Championship is held under the umbrella of the Superbikes Barcelona Motorfest. The Parade Lap, the Pit Walk, the Motul Action Box or the Start Experience are some of the proposals in which the fans will be able to participate.

Although Aegerter, Huertas, Gennai and the rest of the riders will have to take to the track tomorrow, the fans will be able to take over from them off the track. Tomorrow will see the first free practice sessions and, in the afternoon, the first Superpole races of the weekend. From 9am onwards, spectators will be able to watch the production-derived motorbikes on the World Championship track.

The weekend looks set to be just as exciting on the sporting side, with only one event completed for WorldSBK and WorldSSP, the favourites have yet to make their mark. WorldSSP 300, on the other hand, will open the 2024 season at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. In the premier class it is undeniable that the main protagonists will be riders such as Álvaro Bautista, Jonathan Rea or Toprak Razgatlioglu, all of them champions of the series, but also other familiar faces such as Andrea Ianone, Scott Redding, Iker Lecuona, Danilo Petrucci, the Lowes brothers or Tito Rabat, among others.

A sustainable event

The Pirelli Catalunya Round has been ISO 20121 certified since 2021 for its commitment to sustainability, promoting actions to raise awareness among all stakeholders.

This year, the responsible use of water is a priority for the Circuit given the context of drought and the resulting restrictions. So is the efficient use of energy, with 100% renewable energy. Since 2022, the Circuit has the largest public self-consumption installation in Catalonia, with a total of 1,239 solar panels occupying 2,710 m2. The facility also has 14 charging points for electric vehicles.

As usual, the Circuit offers a committed and 0 km catering offer to reduce CO2 emissions and continues to promote the Zero Waste campaign to reduce plastic waste and the Stop Food Waste campaign to avoid food waste, donating all the surplus not consumed to a social diner. The use of the circular economy is another of the main pillars, giving a second life to materials and objects such as tyres, as well as installing recycling points in the paddock towers for the correct separation of waste.

All of this always trying to raise awareness in the community with areas such as the Educational Crater Forest or the sustainability stand in the Fan Zone (Paddock Area). The Red Cross offers transport service for people with reduced mobility (Gate 1 – Paddock).
