The start of the FIA World Rallycross Championship 2020 was to start this weekend at the Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya with the sixth edition of the Catalunya RX. Although the actual test could not be held, the international World Cup promoter in conjunction with the support of World RX of Catalunya-Barcelona and Codemasters have organized the first round of World RX eSports with the DIRT Rally 2.0 rallycross video game. The Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya has been the inaugural event that has offered a great show, incredible takeovers, constant contact and, in addition, set as the rainy day that has been lived in Barcelona. In this first race various official World RX drivers have participated, such as Timmy Hansen (5th place), Andreas Bakkerud, Kevin Hansen (6th), Timo Scheider or Kevin Abbrig. Mattias Adielsson (SUE) has won the first World RX eSports race. The Swedish Rally Rider was third in last year’s ERC1 Junior with a Skoda Fabia R5.
The big winners of this first race were the DIRT virtual riders, who had the opportunity to take part in the official competition after participating in an online qualifier a few weeks back. Killian Dall’olmo (FRA), the current DIRT World Series champion, finished second and closed the podium by Czech Lukas Mateja.
For the first time we have been able to enjoy the presence of a Spanish driver on the official starting grid of the FIA Rallycross World Championship. Cohete Suárez was the local representative who finished 17th.
The first official eSports World RX race in Portugal will take place on the first weekend of May, at the Montalegre rallycross circuit where the second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship 2020 was to take place.
