Ammermüller lords over the first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race
13 May, 2017 | Formula 1
Michael Ammermüller stamped his authority on the first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race, leading the race from Turn 1. Pole sitter Matt Campbell was overtaken by as many as 6 drivers after a poor start. Once a brief Safety Car spell was over, Ammermüller stormed all the way to the chequered flag, unreachable to Olsen and Cammish, who completed the podium.
Campbell nailed the qualifying session but, when the rubber hit the road, he dropped way down the field. Berton’s off track incident forced the Safety Car in for a couple of laps. Once the race restarted, Ammermüller (Lechner MSG Racing Team) set a blistering pace, pulling a one second gap per lap on his rivals. Further back, Olsen and Cammish engaged in a fierce duel for the second step on the podium, with the Norwegian coming on top and Cammish settling for third place.
The second race is scheduled for tomorrow at 11.45, being the final competition before the greatest showdown of the weekend, the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
