The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya launched the 6 Hours of Barcelona at the Espai Mestral in Port Olímpic today. The event will take place from 16 to 18 October, marking the first visit of the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) to the Catalan circuit.
The round at the Circuit will be the penultimate event of the WEC’s international tour, adding a third world championship to the calendar of the Catalan track. This year, the Circuit has also hosted rounds of the Formula 1® World Championship and the MotoGP™ World Championship.
The event will also feature a strong local presence thanks to Catalan drivers Miguel Molina and Dani Juncadella, both members of the Circuit’s Young Drivers Programme. Molina is the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans champion and a race winner in the FIA WEC with Ferrari AF Corse, whilst Juncadella currently competes with Genesis Magma Racing and also has one victory in the championship to his name.
Indeed, Miguel Molina and Dani Juncadella were two of the key figures at the launch, which was also attended by Frédéric Lequien, CEO of the FIA WEC, and Ignasi Armengol, General Manager at Fira Circuit.
Ignasi Armengol, General Manager at Fira Circuit:
“Hosting the FIA World Endurance Championship for the first time is a significant milestone for the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The inclusion of the WEC will strengthen the Circuit’s international standing and cement its place among the world’s leading motorsport venues. In addition to the visibility and the economic impact it brings to the region, this event rounds off an exceptional 2026 calendar featuring three of the world’s most prestigious championships: Formula 1, MotoGP and the FIA WEC.”
Frédéric Lequien, FIA WEC CEO:
“I believe that our visit provides a unique chance to admire some of the most beautiful cars in the world. Fourteen official manufacturers are putting on a spectacular show featuring high-powered machines. These are the very same cars that regularly compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But that’s not all — fans can also enjoy a variety of activities off the track. It’s a complete experience, with a world championship that everyone can enjoy.”
Miguel Molina, member of the Ferrari AF Corse team:
“I am where I am today thanks to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Young Drivers’ Programme, which I was part of for six years and which played a vital role in my journey to becoming a professional driver. Returning to the Circuit now with the WEC, representing a brand like Ferrari and having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, I think this comes at one of the best moments of my sporting career. It’s an incredible opportunity and I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to come full circle here at home.”
Dani Juncadella, driver for Genesis Magma Racing:
“Interestingly, I’ve always performed well at the circuit, and I have some fond memories of it. It’s great to race at home in front of friends, family and fans who are cheering you on. I’m a very rational person, and when I get into the car I’m aware of all that, but I think it helps me. It’s positive pressure. What’s more, I won the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup title here a few years ago, and this weekend I have a chance to win another title — this time it’s the Sprint Cup.”
