For the first time in its history, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will be visiting the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. From 16 to 18 October, the Catalan circuit will host the second-to-last round of the FIA WEC season, an event that could be pivotal in determining the world champions.

After rounds in Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, São Paulo, Austin and Fuji, Barcelona will take centre stage at a critical point in the season. The Hypercar and LMGT3 categories will deliver a top-class spectacle featuring fourteen manufacturers: Alpine, Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Genesis, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota.

The decision to include the FIA WEC round at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is in response to the championship’s need to adapt their racing calendar due to the conflict in the Middle East affecting the staging of two originally scheduled races. In these exceptional circumstances, the Catalan circuit was chosen as a venue, which highlights the organisers’ confidence in its responsiveness, experience, and world-class facilities.

This addition reinforces the Circuit’s international standing as a leading venue in world motorsport. The Circuit has a proven track record in organising major international sporting events, and is now adding the pinnacle of endurance racing to its calendar. This is a discipline that is currently experiencing significant growth, thanks to the commitment of leading car manufacturers and the growing interest it is generating among fans worldwide.

Beyond the sporting arena, hosting the FIA WEC represents a strategic opportunity for Barcelona and Catalonia. The competition will strengthen the region’s international profile, generate economic activity, and attract visitors, teams, and professionals from the motorsport industry. This will consolidate the Circuit’s role as a driving force in sport, tourism, and the economy.

By hosting the FIA WEC exceptionally in 2026, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will join the select group of circuits worldwide that have hosted Formula 1, MotoGP and the FIA World Endurance Championship in the same year – three of the most prestigious international motorsport competitions.

Ignasi Armengol, General Manager at Fira Circuit:

“The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is proud to host a round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. In the face of changes to the competition’s planned calendar and in the hope that this situation will be resolved swiftly, this decision highlights the promoters’ confidence in the Circuit’s experience, organisational capabilities, and world-class facilities. The inclusion of the WEC further establishes the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as a leading international motorsport venue and firmly positions it at the heart of the World Endurance Championship, which is currently experiencing significant growth and expansion. We are not only adding a new event to the 2026 calendar, but also a top-tier competition that will raise the region’s international profile, boost the local economy, and create new opportunities for the area. With the upcoming staging of the WEC round, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will join the select group of circuits worldwide that have hosted the three most prestigious championships in international motorsport this year: Formula 1, MotoGP and the FIA World Endurance Championship.”

Frédéric Lequien, FIA WEC CEO:

“It’s always exciting to visit new venues, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the FIA World Endurance Championship to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the first time. We already know the circuit well from the European Le Mans Series, so we have no doubt that we’ll receive a warm welcome. Spanish fans are among the most passionate in our sport and we are looking forward to seeing a large turnout for the penultimate round of the season — an event that will play a pivotal role in determining the championship winner.”
