Circuit: the largest public photovoltaic installation

The Circuit inaugurates the largest public self-consumption photovoltaic installation in Catalonia within the framework of the e-Mobility Experience

Catalan Ministers Torrent and Mascort have inaugurated the second edition of the sustainable mobility fair e-Mobility Experience, which last year attracted more than 15,000 visitors.

The Catalan Minister of Business and Employment, Roger Torrent i Ramió, and the Catalan Minister of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, David Mascort i Subiranas, have presented this morning the panels on the roof of the Main Grandstand of the Circuit. With this action, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has the largest public self-consumption photovoltaic installation in Catalonia. They have done so within the framework of the opening of the second edition of the e-Mobility Experience, which is being held this weekend at the facilities of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

The space has a total of 1,239 solar panels occupying 2,710 square metres and generating an energy volume of 0.88 GWh per year. The volume of kWp installed is 615 (combined data of Main Grandstand, marquee and roofs). In total, the installation will generate 33% of the energy consumed by the Circuit every year.

Minister Torrent stated that e-Mobility “was born with the vocation of being the most important electric mobility fair in Southern Europe, in order to consolidate Catalonia as a pillar of the automotive industry”. As for the installation of the panels, he explained that it is a “further step in the transformation of Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya, which we want to be as sustainable as possible, the green benchmark Circuit worldwide”.

“Cleaner, cheaper energy that is more ours is now a reality on the rooftops with photovoltaic panels, in the street with electric mobility or through Energética, the public energy company of Catalonia”, said Minister Mascort. “This Government has managed to get Catalonia out of the renewable energy standstill: 1600 MW approved in two years with more than 90 renewable projects with environmental endorsement, 91,000 photovoltaic consumption installations in Catalonia representing more than 700 MW of power, and our sights set on achieving a fully decarbonised electricity system, as indicated by Catalonia’s Energy Outlook (Prospectiva Energètica de Catalunya)”, he added.

Sustainable Mobility

e-Mobility Experience is an experiential fair with the presence of the main brands of all types of vehicles: cars, motorbikes, scooters and electric bicycles. The aim of the fair is twofold: to promote the purchase of electric vehicles through a totally experiential event, where visitors can try out the main brands of electric vehicles in a unique environment, and to raise awareness of sustainable mobility among the younger generations.

The exhibiting brands are: CUPRA, Tesla, Toyota, Silence, Renault, Ford, Lexus, Porsche, Yamaha, EBRO, Zeroid-QEV Technologies, Nissan, Hispano Suiza, KTM, BCN eMotorsport, Circutor, CITIMOB, Ecobike, E-Tech Racing, FELO moto, Floox, Husqbarna, KEMPOWER, Leonart, Maquina motors, Polestar, Ray, Torrot, UPC ecoracing, Utron Racing, Vega Charges, Yotsuba motos, RACC and Reale Seguros.

The first edition was a success with 15,173 visitors, more than 4,000 test drives and more than 30 exhibitors.

Activities at the e-Mobility

This year there will again be motorbike, scooter and bicycle circuits in the upper part of the paddock and it will also be possible to try out a motorbike simulator and, on Sunday, a car simulator. Electric go-karts can also be tested, and the space has a gastronomic area with live music.

Visitors can test vehicles from Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, Tesla, CUPRA and Polestar at the Circuit, while Renault and Porsche will be testing cars in interurban areas without entering the Circuit.

Motorbike tests are carried out by Silence, Ray, Yamaha, Felo moto, Leonart and Maquina moto, and for children by Torrot, Husqvarna, KTM and Yotsuba moto. Ecobike and Yamaha are in charge of the bike tests.

Collaboration with SX3

A highlight of this second edition is the collaboration with SX3 (Catalan public television channel for children) which consists of:

  • Free admission for children with the SX3 card.
  • Exclusive activity for SX3 members (electric motorbike and e-drives circuit).
  • A Meet & Greet with Norman Lopez for the winners of the SX3 contest and the chance to try a car simulator assisted by Norman.
  • The recording of the first ‘Betapodcast’ open to the public with the four BETA members of the new SX3 and a musical performance.

Other children’s activities during the weekend include a road safety training circuit with the RACC, inflatables, a creative sustainable crafts workshop, a drawing competition and traditional wooden games.
