Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has collected more than 1000 kg of food during the F1 Test Days and donated them to El Xiprer, a foundation that works as a food bank and helps the most disadvantaged people. This initiative intends to continue with the ‘No Food Waste’ campaign promoted by the Catalan racetrack, for the fight against food wasting.
In order to carry out the eight test days at the racetrack, the teams of the FIA Formula One World Championship have been settled in the paddock of the Circuit for more than two weeks. Each of them generated a large volume of non-consumed food and excess of products. The Catalan racetrack collected again all of this food, which is normally wasted, as it was not consumed at the end of the event: vegetables, fruit, frozen meat and fish, pasta, beverages, etc.
All of the teams participated in the initiative, as well as Pirelli, the tyre supplier of the championship, and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). All joint efforts give rise to a large-volume donation of food, which increases every year.
Since 2016 the Circuit works in order to provide continuation to actions like this throughout the year. This is the reason why the campaign ‘No Food Waste’ was created, in order to fight against the waste of food during the FORMULA 1 EMIRATES GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA and the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP. This is another way to reduce the environmental impact of the events staged at the Circuit, which is certified according to ISO 14001 since 2008, performing pioneering actions in terms of sustainability.
