Summary of the 2018 Season and 2019 Calendar of the Circuit

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Montmeló)– Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has taken stock of the year, after another season at full performance and high occupation figures, often recording more than one activity on the same day, thanks to its multi-purpose activities. The novelties of the sports calendar for 2019 were revealed as well, promising to be more exciting than ever before.

84% occupation

The Circuit continues to be committed to creating opportunities and offering solutions thanks to its spaces, and was therefore able to close the season with a total of 307 days of activity and 84% of occupation. Of these 307 days, 239 were dedicated to rentals and 68 to races. In addition to purely sports competitions, the Barcelona racetrack has been the venue of both private and collective tests (for car, motorcycling and bicycling championships), incentive and training days, driving courses, shootings, launches, events and many other activities. 36 days were used for works and maintenance tasks this year.

558,404 spectators

A total of 558,404 spectators came out to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2018. The highest attendance figure were the 172,144 spectators that got together on the four days of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA EMIRATES 2018. 91,896 came to the Catalan racetrack on Sunday only. The second most attended sports event in 2019 was the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™, with a total of 155,401 spectators on three days and 90,537 fans on Sunday.

8,127,087 € of economic impact in printed written press

As regards the media impact, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been once again in the focus of attention. According to data provided by Acceso Group, the impact achieved in the written press has amounted to 8,127,087 €, thus improving the almost seven million euros (6,944,895 €) of last year, which already showed a significant improvement with regard to 2016 (4,491,816 €). In two years, the number of pieces of news published about topics dealing with the Circuit and its activities has tripled, increasing from 700 pieces to a total of 2004.

19 sports events for 2019

2019 will bring great novelties, that will all be gathered in one week in July, with the best endurance championships of the moment: a round of the European Le Mans Series and the FIA WEC Prologue (official preseason test). Another significant novelty is the staging of the MotoGP™, Moto2™ and Moto3™ tests after the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya. Moreover, the Circuit will once again be the venue of the Formula 1 preseason tests, with the Formula One Test Days (February and March), as well as two additional test days in May. The Circuit will be hosting again, scoring rounds towards three world championships: Formula 1, MotoGP and Rallycross.
