The CirCuitCat 3C “Conscience, Commitment and Coherence” commitment to sustainability will once again be one of this year’s highlights during the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™.

For the tenth year in a row, the Green Meeting Point platform of the Circuit will be promoting KISS Barcelona, joining the programme known as KISS (Keep It Shiny and Sustainable) by FIM Ride Green, organising a series of activities to raise awareness among the attending public about the care and respect of the environment, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG 2030 of the UN. The 2022 programme for KISS Barcelona includes the following objectives.

  1. Reducing C02 emissions

In order to reduce C02 emissions, a sustainable mobility programme is envisaged to reach the Circuit by public transport, either by train (Renfe) or by bus (Sagalés). The use of electric vehicles is also promoted and carpooling is encouraged to attend the facilities. In addition, all those who have access to the paddock can find a charging point for electric cars.

Likewise, km0 gastronomy is supported in order to avoid long food transport journeys, as well as to support local producers. Finally, the Circuit uses 100% renewable energy and has low-emission generators for its events.

  1. Minimising waste

The Circuit will hang posters around its facilities to raise awareness about the importance of not wasting food. It does so through its Stop Food Waste campaign. In addition, all the surplus generated will be collected and donated to a local diner, El Xiprer. Reusable cups will be distributed at the catering points in order to avoid generating waste, and the profits from these cups will be used to finance the forestry care of the Circuit. The waste generated is managed with the help of Valoriza and Ecoembes.

In addition, from this GP week the facilities will have one of the RECICLOS machines, the Ecoembes Return and Reward System (RRS), which rewards the commitment to recycling cans and plastic beverage bottles. In this way, visitors passing through the circuit will be able to continue recycling the cans and plastic beverage bottles they consume outside their homes, facilitating the circularity of this waste, that is to say, that they are converted back into new packaging or products after recycling.

  1. Caring for the environment and raising awareness

The Circuit carries out an educational campaign in one of its main green areas, the Crater Forest, a demonstration of sustainable forest management, in order to raise awareness among all the attendants about the care of nature and the environment in general. Furthermore, the Circuit has several Sustainability Meeting Points, information points about the actions carried out by the Catalan circuit. All the public areas will have clearly differentiated containers for the attendees to recycle during the sporting event.

  1. Social impact and inspiring the community

Through all its channels, the Circuit encourages all the public to follow the indications and recommendations on sustainability and supports initiatives of this type of groups with which it works. Along these lines, the track will have a Kids Zone where sustainable educational workshops can be held with the youngest ones. A photo contest will also be promoted, encouraging the attendees to immortalise themselves by following some of the good practices promoted by the Circuit: either by taking care of the forest, collaborating with the Stop Food Waste campaign or using public transport, among others. To be reflected, users should use the hashtags #KissBarcelona and #OnlyOneEarth.

As if all this were not enough, the celebration of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™ coincides with the celebration of World Environment Day, a celebration to which the Catalan track joins.

SPECIAL TRANSPORT SCHEDULE

The special public transport programme set up on the occasion of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de MotoGP™ facilitates the easiest, most comfortable and sustainable way to get to the Circuit. In addition, the Red Cross electric vehicles will once again allow people with disabilities to move around the Circuit, accompanied by volunteers.

By bus

Autocares Sagalés offer their services to attend the Grand Prix. The buses will depart from the Barcelona city centre, from the Estación del Norte de Autobuses bus station (Ali Bei, 80), on platforms 25, 26 and 27. This location allows connection with the metro and the RENFE Commuter Train services (Cercanías), as the Station is located next to Arc de Triomf. Arrivals will take place in front of the Sorli Discau supermarket. On Friday 3 June, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5, the service will be available from 8 a.m., departing every 20 minutes on Friday, every 10 minutes on Saturday and every 5 minutes on Sunday. The tickets cost 18 Euros and are booked at Sagalés (tel. 902 13 00 14 / www.sagales.com).

Shuttle buses

The transfer by bus from the Montmeló station to the Circuit, passing through all the gates, will also be provided. Arrivals will take place at the roundabout of the east access to the Circuit (Sorli Discau area). The ticket price is €2.40 and the services will be available from Friday 3 June with one bus from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; on Saturday with two buses from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and on Sunday with 4 buses from 9 a.m. until the end of the event.

By train

Renfe reinforces the services of Line R2 North of the commuter train service Cercanías de Catalunya with 22,000 additional seats. On 4 and 5 June, a special schedule has been established to ensure an average frequency of 4 trains per hour and direction during the hours when the largest number of passengers is expected to travel between the two stations.

To facilitate the mobility of the fans, Renfe is reinforcing its service with the circulation of 15 special trains daily on the Montmeló – Barcelona connection, in addition to the usual offer of the R2 Nord line (Airport – Barcelona – Montmeló – Maçanet). This service increase for the Grand Prix will be added to Renfe’s standard offer for Montmeló on weekends (74 daily trains, 37 in each direction, totalling 81,400 daily seats).

In order to provide for an easier and quicker ticket purchase, Renfe has programmed the ticket vending machines so that the first ticket displayed on the screen will be a return ticket to Montmeló, the town located next to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
