The city of Barcelona will once again be a Grand Prix city. The premier class of motor racing, Formula 1, will arrive in Catalan territory next week, giving the city of Barcelona a special character. In order to contribute to this transformation, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has joined forces with the Catalan Government and the Barcelona City Council to set up the Formula 1 Barcelona Village.
The space, located in Barcelona’s Port Vell, will open its doors to the public from 26 May to 3 June. With free access for all visitors, the Village aims to connect the Mediterranean, the modernism and the cosmopolitanism of the surroundings with Formula 1, adrenaline and the thrill of the Circuit. There, all fans will be able to find activities, experiences, performances and much more, adapting to all ages and tastes.
Activities
The Formula 1 Barcelona Village will have proposals such as a 360º Photobooth, which will be set in the Circuit, to immortalise the moment among the best drivers. The video can be downloaded afterwards. Visitors will also be able to put themselves to the test with the driver reflex-light panels, a workshop that simulates the method used by many sportsmen to train their reflexes; a pit-stop challenge run by Monlau Competición; or take part in a Scalextric competition. The Beat Gear Box will allow visitors to imitate the authentic sound of the single-seaters in the form of a quiz with prizes.
F1® Experiences
F1® will bring some of the experiences that travel throughout the year with the world championship caravan, such as an eSports area, with the official simulators; a replica of the podium; or the F1 Blast Lane, which will allow you to feel the sensation that the drivers and their cars experience when they enter the wind tunnels. Also on display will be a Williams car, the 2018 FW41 driven by Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin.
Setting
If there’s one thing attendees can expect, it’s non-stop entertainment. The Village will have a stage and will feature micro-concerts as well as DJ performances. In the same vein, the Village will be enlivened by rappers and freestylers, who will perform live battles. There will also be a marching band, as well as performances by Catalan cultural groups such as castellers, giants and big-heads.
Children’s Area
As usual, the youngest children will have a space designed exclusively for them. This space will be divided into three different areas, in which different activities will be carried out. In the first, a cardboard helmet workshop will be held; in the second, a pedal circuit; and in the last, a play area with shadows will be reserved.
F1 in Schools will also be present, with information on the competition’s educational project and a workshop for children visiting the Village.
Sustainability and public information
To promote recycling and raise awareness among the public, the Formula 1 Barcelona Village will install interactive containers with questions related to the premier class of the World Championship. The results of these questions or votes will be posted on social networks.
There will be an information point where visitors will be able to learn about the Circuit and the F1 Grand Prix, where all those who have any questions or doubts will be attended in different languages. It will also be a point where all those who have a parking ticket for the Grand Prix will be able to exchange their ticket for a sticker for their vehicle and access the parking area of the Circuit in a much more agile way.
There will also be a shop with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya merchandising and another one with official Formula 1 products.
Timetable and agenda
The Formula 1 Barcelona Village will be open to the public from noon to 8 p.m. from Friday 26 May until Sunday 28 May. From Monday 29 to Thursday 1, the Village will be open to the public from 3.p.m. to 8 p.m., while on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June it will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
For the time being, two activities can already be confirmed to take place on the Village stage. On Monday 29 May at 6 p.m. there will be a ‘FàbregaLección‘ with Albert Fàbrega, F1 commentator and analyst for Dazn. On Tuesday, also at 6 p.m., there will be a round table discussion on F1 and sustainability, moderated by journalist Josep Lluís Merlos with the drivers Jaime Alguersuari, Belén García and Jordi Gené.
