During the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP™, to be held next 25, 26 and 27 September, the commitment to sustainability of CirCuitCat 3C “Conscience, Commitment and Coherence” will be again one of the main topics.

Despite there not being any spectator attendance, KISSBarcelona 2020 will deal with the improvement of the biodiversity of the green areas in the sports facilities. Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, certified according to the ISO 14001:2015 standard since 2008, and awarded this year with the Committed Entity Biosphere certificate, is adhering to the KISS programme (Keep It Shine & Sustainable), which is part of the FIM Ride Green programme, for the eighth year in a row.

Last year, the Circuit carried out several actions in order to improve 1 hectare of the forest in the Crater area, which was inaugurated by Marc Márquez, Environmental Ambassador of the FIM. This year, the Circuit will inaugurate the “Path of Senses”, acting on 0.8 additional hectares of the forest, thus completing the restoration of the total surface of this area. The Catalan racetrack is a sports facility that includes more than 25 hectares of green areas including a 13-hectare forest, which are part of the improvement project. The aim is to create a dynamic and living green space with an environmental and social impact, as well as to increase the health and well-being of the community.

The initiative is also the result of a circular funding generated by sustainable circular economy actions, such as the income generated by the sale of the reusable cup at the Circuit in previous years. And for another year, the Circuit will continue with the Stop Food Waste campaign, in order to promote the reduction of waste and the valuation of the different groups of waste.

This inauguration does also intend to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the commitment to sustainability of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). A path it has followed hand in hand with the Circuit many times, considering that the Circuit received the Environmental Award by the FIM on three occasions (2012, 2016 and 2019).

The reforestation of the ecosystems is essential in order to reach the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and therefore, the UNEP has proclaimed reforestation as a world priority for the 2012-2030 decade.

Regarding sports, the tightest World Championship arrives at the Circuit

The premier class had never had so many winners in so few races. Up to six different winners have stepped onto the top of the MotoGP™ podium in seven races. Moreover, four riders are separated by only four points in the standings: Andrea Dovizioso, Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales and Joan Mir. Despite not counting on the attendance of reigning world champion Marc Márquez, the show will be guaranteed, as his rivals are not wasting their time.

In Moto2™ and Moto3™, the races are going to be thrilling as well. Catalan rider Albert Arenas is leading in the smallest class, closely followed by Ai Ogura and John McPhee. In Moto2™, the leaders are currently Luca Marini, Enea Bastianini and Marco Bezzecchi.

In only a couple of days, the world championship caravan will be at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and it promises to be a weekend to remember.
