The Circuit uses facial recognition and thermal cameras at the facility access control

Among many other preventive measures included in a comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and mitigation plan that will be implemented on the occasion of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is working intensively to ensure the highest possible safety before, during and after the events staged in its facilities. Within the framework of the FORMULA 1 ARAMCO GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA 2020, the circuit has implemented a ground-breaking system consisting of facial recognition and thermal cameras to access the facilities, as well as several other COVID-19 preventive measures.

This new project has been developed together with the Department for Digital Policies, through the Telecommunications and Information Technologies Centre (CTTI) of the Catalan Government and T-System, in order to control the access to the Circuit by means of facial recognition and temperature monitoring with thermal cameras of all the staff accessing the facilities.

Likewise, the Barcelona racetrack has been working hand in hand with the FIA and Formula 1 to implement a strict action protocol, not only during the Grand-Prix-days but also during the previous days. All those attending have been distributed into specific areas, i.e., the teams of people are classified and grouped according to their task and the place in which they carry it out, in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The virus detection tests have started already a few days ago and will continue to be made until the end of the Grand Prix, and every person accessing the facilities undergoes a body temperature control.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya gives continuity to many of these actions beyond the context of the F1 Spanish Grand Prix. The world championship track has been working on a series of measures and actions for the Sports Deconfinement, in agreement with the General Secretariat of Sport and Physical Activity of the Catalan Government, the aim of which is to make it possible to resume the racing activity in the facilities, minimising the risk of COVID-19 infection at the same time.

Masks must be worn at all times, and hydroalcoholic solution is made available to everyone accessing common spaces and areas. These areas have a limited maximum capacity and, for the moment, the events will be staged behind closed doors.

The cleaning and disinfection tasks have been intensified according to the established capacity, the traffic frequency and the type of activity and use of the facility, among many other measures.
