The Circuit will Modify the Run-off Area at Turn 1

The works in the affected area will start in the coming days and will serve to widen the gravel surface and thus reinforce the safety of drivers and riders.

Circuit

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is already working on the modification project of Turn 1. More specifically, it is doing so in order to widen the run-off area, thus increasing the current surface by almost 40%. In order to carry out this change, the world championship track will also have to consider other necessary modifications such as the reconstruction of service tracks, walls and the installation of safety elements.

The work in the affected area will be carried out at the end of the sporting season and over a period of 18 weeks. They will increase the surface area of the Turn 1 run-off area from approximately 5,200 m2 to 7,200 m2 of agglomerate and gravel. The current gravel area of 3,100 m2 will be increased to 5,100 m2 with these improvements. Thus, both drivers and riders will have more space in case of any off-track event, thus guaranteeing the maximum safety both in races and in any other kind of practice or activity.

With this final objective in mind, the Circuit will first have to carry out other types of works and modifications. In a first phase, trees will be cut down in the affected area, in compliance with the regulations in force in order to always ensure the conservation and care of the environment. In the same line, the Circuit undertakes to plant the estimated value resulting from the valuation of the trees removed, in accordance with the Granada 2020 Standard. The planting will take place both inside Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in the municipality of Montmeló, and on land in the same town: in the area of Can Cabanyes and in the green area of Can Tabola. It will be carried out in agreement with the town council and with the participation of other groups such as championship promoters, federations, associations linked to the territory and citizens in general.

In addition to the preliminary works, demolition and earthworks, new structures such as walls and service tracks will be built in the area. Finally, all safety elements (tyre barriers or TEC-PRO barriers) will have to be reinstalled to reinforce safety.
