RACC-Renault School
The
RACC-Renault School was founded as an answer
to a highly important question: do we know how
to react in extreme situations when driving?
This school aims at teaching pupils all the
techniques to get the control of the vehicle
in any situation and in any surface.
Personalized courses take place, of varying
length and especially for companies.
The objective is to get rid of bad habits and
to improve both attitudes and aptitudes at the
wheel.
The premise is that is the driver the one who
has to control the car and not the other way
round. And specially, to be aware of the risks
and to know how to avoid them is the key
to prevent lots of accidents.
An experienced teacher
The RACC-Renault School is conducted by Salvador
Cañellas, former elite rally driver.
He thinks that, "there are lots of different
situations when driving that can put in danger
the driver's security and that from all the
ones who are travelling with him. In the driving
school we are taught how to drive the car, and
once we have passed the exam we consider ourselves
the kings of the world, but the vehicle is a
complex machine and learn how to drive it perfectly
is enormously difficult and just occasionally
we get it just after a few basic courses".
Because of that his job's objective is crystal
clear for Cañellas: "To avoid risks.
It's not a matter of what to do when the car
has slipped, but to prevent the car from slipping".
Undoubtedly, this out-of-school activity is
highly advisable and the Circuit's facilities
offer all the means to carry out the courses.
A tailor-made School
In the School there are three different levels
with the purpose of eliminating the bad habits
acquired and improving the attitudes at the
wheel. The facilities include a 700-meter slippery
track and a classroom for the theoretic lessons.
The differences between ABS braking or without
it, skidding, the front-wheel driving and real
wheel driving are some of the secrets that might
be discovered at the elementary courses (Safe
Driving 1). This courses last for two days (working
days or during the weekend).
If the courses last one day more, the third
day is for the " Safe Driving Course 2",
a second level, where exercicis learnt in Safe
Driving 1 are reviewed and more complex and
demanding exercices are introduced. A third
level would be the " Special rear wheel
driving" a practical course which is carried
out with the particular car of each pupil. The
former courses are carried out with vehicles
of the Renault Megane range and with BMW 325i.
