Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has renewed the Excellence level accreditation from the sustainability programme of the FIA. The Catalan racetrack continues to show a strong involvement with the environment, which is groundbreaking in the world of motor sports and racetracks, after three years with this recognition.
In 2015, the Circuit became the first Formula One racetrack to achieve the Excellence level of the sustainability programme of the FIA. The aim of this project is to improve sustainability in motor sport worldwide and provides for a framework in order to work for environmental management in the different groups of interest, launching initiatives to move forward in this field of action.
The FIA has certified that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Management has shown a long-term commitment to sustainable environmental operations, after having received the first ISO certification in 2008. The Circuit promotes, among many other things, the responsible consumption of resources, a sustainable mobility promoting the use of public transport, electric vehicles and bicycles, the maintenance of green spaces, etc.
The environmental actions carried out by the Circuit have born fruit in recent years with recognitions by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM Environment Award) and the Royal Spanish Motor Sport Federation (Environmental Sustainability Award), which are added to the accreditation from the FIA.
Vicenç Aguilera, President of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya: “It is an honour for us to be recognised as one of the most sustainable racetracks of the world, and the fact that this recognition is maintained with the Excellence level by the FIA. We will continue working in order to improve and to grow as regards the sustainability of our facilities”.
